Labour law: workers’ rights

Workers' rights, including the right to strike, are provided by the South African Constitution and most of the rights specifically related to "Labour relations" are found in Section 23 of the Bill of Rights. Although South Africa has implemented one of the best labour legislations on the African continent, most workers have their rights infringed by employers, sometimes with total impunity. While in some cases workers have shown an obvious lack of knowledge of their rights and employers’ responsibilities, it has been observed that some workers face various challenges to legally confronting their employers. It is therefore our responsibility to raise awareness to such workers about their rights as provided by the Bill of Rights and the international human rights provisions. To this end, our interns are equipped with the necessary tools and knowledge to help those in need of assistance in labour related issues.
